The pads are old and a few may be missing. The keys move freely and they need to be polished. There is a 1 1/4” tight split inside the socket on the bell joint.
In terms of its playing ability, it's in perfect condition - it has an amazing tone, no leaks, and the wood has not even begun to warp. There is a 1 3/4” scuff on the back of the wing joint. I just finished my freshman year of college, and I got my first Heckel. The wood is in good shape with some minor nicks.

All four pieces have matching serial numbers. The instrument came having had one broken key soldered by Kevin. Bore at top of LH joint: 14.7, and the same at the bottom of the same joint. There is a repaired crack in the bell and the nearby bell ring has some damage. Schreiber& Sohne Wood Bassoon for Restoration 9261 Western Germany N/R This is a Schreiber& Sohne wood Bassoon. The metal plating has been polished to a high shine, but has a little spot wear as is typical for this type of instrument. The lacquer has some scratching and a few minor chips, but is remarkably intact. From a cosmetic perspective, this instrument shows some wear, but is in great condition overall. The wood material gives the instrument a richer sound than similar plastic models. I know this is probably a really common post, but I've looked at multiple serial lists and forums on Schreiber and I cannot find this instrument or model.
Its relatively low cost and good quality make it a great choice for a student starting out on the instrument. I have a good quality (as in playable, all pads intact and good, mainly just needs to be cleaned) Schreiber and Sohne bassoon. It now plays cleanly and evenly up and down and responds as it should. All the pads are brand new, replaced during our overhaul process on this instrument. They specialize in making student and intermediate level instruments that are easy to learn on and last a long time. Schreiber makes high quality musical instruments for a variety of manufacturers, and the Schreiber & Sohne model has excellent over quality.
